Description: | This study aimed to identify the popular mass and intellectual trends in Andalusia at the time of the Caliphate, to demonstrate its societal importance and to highlight the relationship between the Andalusian people and various intellectual trends by observing the degree of consciousness and awareness of the this mass to the rejection and assimilation of ideas coming to Andalusia, and their impact on the social structure and movement of society. The ordinary popular mass is considered among the productive classes which have a very important role in supporting the weight of economic activity, because they represent the majority of society. The Umayyad Caliphs of Andalusia were alerted to the need to control the ordinary popular masses of Andalusia because of the danger they faced if they fell under the influence of opinions and ideas hostile to those in power. The union of political authority and Maliki jurists was a project based on constant work to control and monitor this class and prevent it from falling under external influences. We mention, for example, the religious censorship imposed by Maliki jurists on Hadith scholars despite their high positions in the state, and they worked to find a way to bridge the gap between the public and Hadith scholars to control the intellectual tendencies of the public. Despite this, it was noted that Hadith scholars enjoyed prestige and high status among the public due to their proximity to them and serving their interests and this was not only limited to scholars of the Hadith but this model was widespread among most notables who gained public favour, regardless of their intellectual orientation. We can conclude from the above that the ordinary masses who contributed to the development of history were marginalized by the leaders who monopolized this history and attributed it to themselves, thanks to the historians of the courtyard. They have also been marginalized by modern scholars who have drawn their history topics solely from official directories, and have shut down the true aspects of history from the popular masses out of ignorance or due to an exploitative view that initially turned them away. to write history for these masses, this historical field still requires much dissection and research in the hope of obtaining scientific material from buried sources. |
