| Description: | The objective of this study is to elucidate the role of emerging financial markets in achieving economic development in Malaysia. The theoretical aspect of the study delves into fundamental concepts of financial markets, emerging financial markets, and economic development. Emerging financial markets are identified as a key instrument for fostering economic growth due to their positive impact on economic activity. Numerous recent studies have established a strong correlation between emerging financial markets and economic development. The applied aspect of the study focuses on utilizing the experience of Malaysia in developing its stock market and exploring the extent of the impact and effectiveness of this market on economic development. This is achieved by determining the impact of the stock market on economic development and measuring the effect of the independent variable, represented by the FTSE Malaysia Stock Exchange Index, on the dependent variable, which is GDP. The EViews 9 statistical software is employed to analyze the correlation coefficient between the two variables. Additionally, the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method is utilized to estimate the model parameters, which enable the determination of the extent of the impact of the independent variable on the dependent variable for Malaysia during the period 2000-2022. The findings indicate that the explained variable has a positive impact on economic development in Malaysia |
