Abstract: The current research aims at investigating Algerian folk proverbs, specifically Tiaretian ones. Indeed, it deals with how proverbs are decontextualized from their normal context. To this effect, the researchers have adopted a textual analysis of twenty Algerian proverbs which were collected from old people from different communities of Wilaya of Tiaret and the book of M.A.K. halliday and Ruqaiya Hasan entitled Language contaxts, and text, aspects of language in a social semiotic perspective. The collected data are subjected to Hallidayan model of context of situation and Malinowski’s context of culture. Accordingly, the findings of the research shows that some of Algerian proverbs are used in a disguised way which is outside of the real of its appropriate context. This kind of use effects negatively on the principles that proverbs should stand on, therefore, they lose their effect on any fitting situation
