Abstract: This dissertation deals with university teachers‟ assessment literacy. It investigates to what extent university teachers are assessment literate to assess learners. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the used data collection instruments is a teachers‟ questionnaire that was distributed to university teachers in Ibn khaldoun university –Tiaret-. The aim of this study is to discover Algerian university teachers attitudes towards assessment literacy and the degree of consciousness of its importance in fostering learning. The results obtained from the analysis lead us to deduce that assessment in the university has some shortcomings and weakness points. There are some lacks to achieve effective students‟ assessment which requires teachers training to create qualified staff.
