| Abstract: | تُعتبر انتفاضة الشاویة عام 1907 من بین أبرز صور المقاومة الشعبیة في المغرب ضد التوسع الاستعماري الفرنسي. فقد جاءت هذه الانتفاضة نتیجة للتدهور الملحوظ في الأوضاع الاقتصادیة والاجتماعیة، الذي تمثل في انتشار المجاعات والأوبئة، وفرض ضرائب قاسیة مثل ضریبة الترتیب. كما أضیف إلى ذلك أیضا منح امتیازات واسعة للأجانب من خلال نظام الحمایة القنصلیة، مما أدى إلى إضعاف سیادة الدولة. هذا فیما یخص الأوضاع الاقتصادیة والاجتماعیة |
| Description: | The Chaouia Uprising of 1907 is considered one of the most prominent examples of popular resistance in Morocco against French colonial expansion. This uprising emerged as a result of the significant deterioration in economic and social conditions, manifested in widespread famine, epidemics, and the imposition of harsh taxes such as the tirzib tax. Additionally, the granting of extensive privileges to foreigners through the consular protection system weakened the sovereignty of the state. On the political level, the spread of corruption, power struggles, and the local authority’s (Makhzen’s) disregard and contempt for the people of Chaouia further fueled public anger. The uprising marked an early awakening of national consciousness and served as a prelude to the French occupation and the establishment of the Protectorate in 1912. Although the uprising did not succeed in halting French advancement in Morocco in general—and in the Chaouia region in particular—it remained a symbol of resistance and popular rejection of both foreign domination and internal oppression. |
