The outbreak of COVID-19 has changed education by imposing a sudden shift in the mode of teaching and roles of its agents. This situation calls the attention to the students’ responsibility beyond the classroom. Hence, this study examines whether the Algerian university students’ advance their autonomy beyond the classroom. As research instruments, a questionnaire and journal prompts are selected. The sample is comprised of 177 Master 1 and 2 students at the University of Ibn Khaldoun, Algeria. The findings suggest that autonomy beyond the classroom is still an underdeveloped area with great potential in need of teacher support and training in self-regulation and transferable skills.en_US
