dc.description	This dissertation examines the pivotal role of the military commander in the Algerian War of Independence (1954–1962), highlighting his organisational and strategic contribution to the armed struggle against French colonialism. The study explores the commander’s responsibilities, the criteria used for their selection, and the significant challenges they encountered. Special emphasis is placed on the structural organisation of the revolutionary army, particularly following the Soummam Congress, which established discipline and coordination among the six historical regions. The research also presents an applied case study of Wilaya V (Fifth Region) as a living model of effective military leadership during the war. Adopting historical, analytical, and comparative methodologies, the study draws on diverse sources including memoirs, eyewitness accounts, and academic references to provide a comprehensive understanding of the military commander's contribution to the cohesion and success of the Algerian revolution	en_US
