| dc.description | The intellectual contributions of Malik Bennabi and Mouloud Kacem Nait Belkacem offer a comprehensive philosophical vision for reforming Algerian and Islamic societies, grounded in the revival of civilizational and spiritual identity to confront the challenges of colonialism and cultural imperialism. Both agree that Islam is not merely a doctrine but a philosophy of life that integrates ethical and rational values, emphasizing education as a tool for liberating the mind and building a conscious individual. Malik Bennabi (1905–1973), born in Constantine, analyzes the underdevelopment of the nation through the concept of "colonizability," a psychological and social condition resulting from the loss of collective will and intellectual stagnation. He views civilization as an interaction between human beings, land, and time, influenced by a religious idea, and proposes an Islamic Commonwealth as a cultural space that unifies the nation without erasing its diversity, stressing the importance of education to revive critical thought. Mouloud Kacem Nait Belkacem (1927–1992), born in Béjaïa, focuses on the Algerian context, formulating the concept of "Algerianness" as a national identity that integrates Islam, the Arabic language, and history while embracing Amazigh diversity. He advocates for authentic education and Arabization to counter cultural imperialism, and calls for a political system based on shura (consultation) that reflects the will of the people, rejecting both Westernized secularism and religious extremism.
