This study aims to uncover, advantages, and drawbacks of using artificial intelligence in academic research and ethical concerns that are encountered by researchers through the academic journey. This research aims to unveil the use of AI tools among foreign language learning, especially English with the objective to minimize its potential risks and uphold the integrity of scientific research. This investigation captivates the importance of proactive measures to ensure that AI remains a powerful tool in service of human knowledge and progress, and not a replacement of human brain funtions and productive roles. To reach this end, we used an online survey and an interview to gather essential data for our research. The findings reveal that both teachers and students use AI tools and have no background knowledge of how to use them etically, yet AI dependency is what characterizes our sample of teachers and students and this is an alarming academic concern. In this respect, a professional training is needed to ensure the ethical use of AI and boost digital skills respectively.en_US
