The history of the ancient Maghreb during the era of the Roman occupation is among the studies that are still not clear, due to the long period of occupation, which lasted nearly six centuries (146 BC to 429 AD), during which the Roman Empire practiced a set of military policies, economic, social and control of the region. The researchers divided the stages of this occupation into two phases, from 146 BC to 46 BC, which was called the Maghreb a Roman province, and from 46 BC to 429 AD in the Maghreb under the Proconsular system, in which the Roman policy varied between controlling the areas of influence to the displacement of the population And the people of their lands and granted to their retired soldiers, this is what resulted in a reaction on the part of the inhabitants of the old Maghreb represented in reactions hostile to this occupation, and it was in the form of revolutions, the most important of which was in the second half of the fourth century AD, such as the Rural Daurun revolution , the revolution of Fermus and his brother Gildon, in addition to the Donatian movement, as these revolutions are considered the cause of the demise of the Roman occupation in the region. These revolutions resulted in several political, economic, social, and religious repercussions, which varied between positive and negative on both sides, and perhaps the most important of these repercussions is the decline in the influence of the Roman occupation in the region and then the end of its existence after another invasion of the region, which is the Vandal occupation.en_US
